Velda Was born and raised in Saskatchewan. With a desire to travel, her portfolio includes subjects from various parts of Canada and around the world. Her love of animals is also reflected in much of her work. Velda began painting in her retirement. She has taken classes and workshops locally. She credits her desire to create to her father, Max Lekivetz, who was an accomplished carver and photographer. Her experience working in various aspects of theatre and work has also influenced her work. Velda works mainly in acrylics using palette knives and brushes. She likes to use bright colours. Velda feels satisfaction at presenting a glimpse into life through her paintings and hopes they evoke pleasant memories for others.
