Marianne Smisko
Member since 1990
Marianne’s interest in painting developed in school, but she became more involved in the early 80’s. She grew up on a farm in the Moose Mountains near Kisbey. It was here that she developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of Saskatchewan. The changing seasons and diversity of landscapes found in the province continually inspire her. Marianne paints with watercolours and oils, but recently acrylics are her preferred medium. Her style is mainly realistic and although self-taught she has taken a number of workshops and classes. She captures Saskatchewan’s splendour in her paintings of wildlife and flowers. Her interest in Saskatchewan’s history is reflected in her scenes of old elevators, farmsteads, and churches. Many works depict Regina scenes, including the Legislative Buildings. Lately, she has become fascinated with capturing Saskatchewan’s ever changing sky. Her works of art are found in individual and corporate collections across Canada, the USA and overseas.
