Born and raised in Wisconsin, Jennifer Bobowski has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. With the encouragement of family and friends, she took classes in painting, drawing, and ceramics, falling in love with the vivid colours and varied textures of oil paint, and nurturing a passion for graphite and charcoal. Life eventually took her to Saskatchewan, where she was struck by the wide-open land, the sunsets that stretched across the entire sky, the grain elevators and rusted railroad cars and trails that stretched into the horizon. With no shortage of beauty around her, she began to explore the everyday moments, the people and places, that make us who we are, using colour and form to capture those liminal moments that make us human and bring us joy, whether its spending time with loved ones, watching a prairie sunset, or simply sitting and daydreaming. Primarily painting on wood panels, she is also fascinated by the relationship between the painting and the surface, sometimes letting the texture of the wood emerge through the image. With diverse influences ranging from the old to the new, her work varies from realistic to abstract and stylized, with several layers of colour. She is passionate about learning and growing as an artist and bringing joy to others.
